Your Uncle Anthony sent up from the depths of the country in England. I am sorry- many contradictions which it did me good to read- Emily had written to me the first time for months & by the light of the [[?]] story I was able to understand certain allusions - The says McPepper [[?]] did not want her to go to England this summer in case she was needed at home, she speaks of [[?]] [[?]] her house and supposes she may pass the winter in IL, & says that if there is any news she will let me know. What a mess! Why on Earth did not Ed try & get along on account of child, I dreaded this, & it distresses me to think what a grief it will be to her grandfather if he is not to have that child with him, but I feel that Emily would not ask for the divorce unless she was sure of having
