I am glad to know that you are to spend the summer by the sea. I almost wish I were going too, for in this dry climate one longs so for the sight of water. My springs are missing and the pond was fast falling and all looked so well here where the dry, usual, hot summer began and now the water is disappearing and in two weeks I will have a mud ditch. I cannot imagine how the French climate ever got the reputation of being damp. I seem to remember in my youth rainy seasons, but certainly not in these parts -- in twelve years last summer was the only one,and how I enjoyed it, now [[?]]
