out of the way but an omnibus passes the door which in ten minutes lands us at the Uffizzi and all the rest of it - fare 2 cents. The house is small and very quiet - people not very interesting - one nice family, Englishman and daughter with lovely French wife, second I think. The nicest French woman I ever saw - has a soul - is an artist - pupil of Brunat [[Brunet]], Bastien-Lepage etc. Pater very cultivated and pleasant and has travelled every where - America and all. I think is a clergyman who dont 'clergy'.

It is raining and thundering and I'm afraid our nice weather is over - though I see patches of blue sky behind the poplar trees. I am sure we shall get fond of Florence [[strikethrough]] but [[/strikethrough]] and even after Venice the Campanile of the Duomo (the Cathedral tower) seemed to me about the most beautiful thing
