afternoon on the beach Miss Van Trump who is the massière and a particular friend of 'Shorty' - had a long talk with May and it ended by Miss V.T's communicating in a very gingerly [[sincerely?]] and delicate manner the fact that Mr Lasar wants May to come to the studio this last month for [[underlined]]nothing[[/underlined]] and let him teach her—  Said that though she was slow to 'take in' there was talent and originality in her work in her way of seeing things and he wanted her to go on—  And she is going to - and is'nt he a dear—  He got Miss Van Trump to speak to May because he did'nt know how—    He has also been saying nice things about me and they have been hinted back to me by others - such as that day Mrs Conant was distinguée etc.  He did seemed surprised at it the last time he came - saying 'Thats pretty good 'Thats very nice - That's coming on - over

The arm chair, as it's raining and no beach this morning—  Grandma I surely told you that I did go to the McCall mision - and saw M. Dardier and all  
I remember writing it to somebody - and surely could not have omitted anything so important—  I went with Miss Fanny Lea - and a Mrs  Oh, I cant think of her name but she was a very sweet woman who looked like Mrs Billin glorified and she made a speech at the meeting - which was translated as soon as she had finished, by a French man for the benefit of those who could'nt understand English—  Mr McCall is a sweet smiling old man - very long thin delicate and benevolent looking - who speaks French fluently without any French

Robert Whitaker McAll (1821–1893) was a congregationalist minister from English and Scottish origin who founded the " Popular Evangelical Mission of France " in Paris in 1872
