companionship of the last few days have almost made us forget the first part of the trip—  The Captain is not a bit nice and goes around flirting with girls and swearing—  I have made up my mind that no money is too much to pay for crossing the ocean in a first class [[?]] to feel safe, to have oranges and a cool stateroom—  We have had no incidents not even a whale—  Though this morning we have just passed close to one of the Anchor Line ship, The Caledonia, at anchor - repairing herself—  We thought from a distance that it was a ship in distress - that we were going to have to tow in, but she did not need us—  
We expect to get in tomorrow evening and I wonder if I shall see a [[?]] face Etta's perhaps on the dock - oh dont I wish you were going to be there—  If no one is I dont know what I shall do - for I hav'nt a cent of money or shant have another when my fees are paid - for the custom house - am worried about what to declare and what not - and to have them unpack my things will be awful - but pet the parson has just come up and is reading The Saint's Tragedy and smoking a pipe by our side—

His name is The Rev Charles Morris - and he is a young clergy - though Congregationally descended - Handsome, vigorous, and money, a second Oscar.  Very jocky - He and his friend Mr. George Seymour have been taking a six weeks by cycle trip in England - all a David & Jonathan - Jonathan being a Patent Lawyer in New Haven - unutterably devoted to David - who is one of the kind born to receive rather than to give [[?]].  They are both very gentlemanly and [[?]] inside and out and look very swell in there [[sic]] tweed knickerbockers and big scotch cloaks—  The other girls aboard envy us and try to get them away from us to card parties etc at which they stay as short a time as possible—  They know people we know and Mr S. was a room mate of one of us Mary's cousins at  Then there is Mr Tarbell- [[Whitman?]] Mr Morris' tutor at Yale - and Mr M. says the most brilliant man of his time at Yale.
