Walden is working hard on a twelve foot canvas - Five figures bathing -- against a sunlit sea and they are naturally about the value of black against the light. Now he has a problem. To get much color in the figures and still retain the value of light.

Each day he comes around and says You and I have [[strikethrough]]?[[/strikethrough]] chosen difficult subjects and I am convinced I cannot paint. He gets terribly discouraged --- I don't doubt know enough ---

Shall send two things to the Salon - Have already forwarded my work to Berlin. Had to borrow money to pay classes. If you have not sent any money for last month. Please forward at once the regular amount.

I shall probably sail on the 10th /about of June - and shall soon begin to sell canvases &c

Love to all and hoping you are all well

I remain

William.
