My dear Parents

My pictures are coming on and are nearly finished. That word finished is my stumbling block -
 
My mother and child are well along - and my Berlin work is framed - My own portrait is going to look painter-like but not very like.  The whiskers are a trifle queer.

I am not going to send to London this year. Have no small painting good enough and the two large ones are of a weight that puts them out of reach. The frame on my portrait is black and nothing but gold frames are accepted in the Academy  - My "Mother and Child" which is large, and my best. I hoped to send to London, but am [[strikethrough]] pl [[/strikethrough]] advised by Walden to send it the Salon. And his advise is valuable. He is directing my efforts now
