To me / now painting & seems to me anything but a hopeless task, but a life of great possibilities Never before have been so encouraged. The Luxemburg is closed for a week or so. Wednesday I occupied my time in viewing the Louvre. Thursday in moving into my new quarters. Am comfortably settled in a large room, taken care of by a dear old lady who tells me my French is very bad. I really think she must be mistaken. The room is large, sunny and sanitary. 

Friday went to the Lourve., bought in a book stall on the Seine a wonderfull collection of drawings for 30ยข. Made some sketches in the afternoon, ate dinner in a cheap nicely decorated little cafe where all the students congregate saw Mrs Ward and Reggy there. Each evening I go to St Lukes club in order to save heating my room and also to meet some of the American students. They are a nice interesting lot of men. Hard working, thin
