The Chess Club is no more. I was about the only enthusiast, and could punish them all. After a month it got to be less popular and [[crossout]] I [[/crossout]] one or two would be the number of players. Now when all are working worrying and hoping for the success of their Salon work no one shows up at the reading room. The musical evenings we started have gone thro in the same way altho' I fiddle in my studio each day and imagine it helps my painting.
I have not heard from Robert lately. He owes me two letters:

You had a busy week of entertaining. I got your letter describing the doings this morning and it pleased me to think you were entertaining young married couples, ministers etc.
