I know what I am capable of - Abbey never could have won in London except by illustration. Sargent never could have except for his income—

My portrait is finished except for a touching up of color on the face and hand, and a final varnish of mastic as It has been painted on a [[an]] absorbant canvas.

I am starting another canvas this week of an infant in the mothers [[mother's]] arms &c ce. - When these are finished I shall go to school once more, and await the verdict of the various exhibitions.

Robert is going to leave in a couple of weeks. He is fortunate and I envy him. Hope he gets a good church - Ministers as a rule enter into their work with a humble Christlike spirit - but come soon like their flock to consider the man a success who draws the largest salary. Salary first Christ's work —— next.
