My dear Mother,

Saturday night the American Club opened to exhibitions with a smoker and musical. Things were very amusing. Men from all parts of the world were there. Thompson an English portrait painter played the piano wonderfully. I found out later that he had started some ten years ago to study the piano as a profession in Munich,  gave it up for painting. He played Grieg, Bathmore, and Chopin with great finnish [[finesse]]. Among fifty students there was much talent in the way of entertaining
