Paris, May 24, 1903.

Dear Mother-

Who would have dreamed last year that my twenty-third birthday would be spent in Paris? We longed for the members of our other birthday party (the party of April 1st) to share the days pleasures with us.

My birthday surprise began the evening before when Mlle. Riandmalan and her mother presented me with a beautiful bouquet of roses and carnations. Wasn't that lovely of them? I was much pleased, I assure you.

The next day dawned gloriously. It was hot, but it was an agreeable change after all the rain we have had. Will came up to bid us Good-morning

like to have you both with us! Continued in our next with love.
