Carrie was not well enough to go out. The painting + frame is not injured in the least by packing and the long journey. It has a commanding position in the room and where it has a good light. It is a beautiful painting of a lovely girl. The position so easy, natural and graceful. the dress so simple and at the same time elegant in its folds and coloring. Agnes has grown into a woman since we saw her last on board the St Paul, on her way to England. The Pan American Exposition is a great success. It is not so large as the World's Fair at Chicago. The buildings are finer. The coloring rich and harmonious. Far more pleasing and less trying than the everlasting white of the White City of Chicago. and when night comes and the illumination begins with Sousa's band playing "Nearer My God to Thee", it is inspiring.
