Researches.

The curator finished the examination of the collections of Pentacrinus made by the steamer Albatross in the Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean sea, in 1884, finding but two species - P. decorus and P. Mülleri. A report on this subject has been deferred until the similar collections of this year can be identified.

A beginning was made toward revising the collection of starfishes by overhauling the many specimens of the deep sea species of starfish, Archaster Americanus, selecting out the reserve series of the same, drying a large number of the specimens, and preparing the catalogue cards. A large number of duplicates resulted from this work.

Work on the Echini was continued at intervals during the month, most attention being paid to those recently brought in by the Albatross. The larger and commoner
