The Mouth of the Chesapeake in Sunglint

The lower Chesapeake Bay (1) and adjacent coastal waters of the Atlantic Ocean (2) are accented in the sunglint. The photograph was taken in June 1991 with a 250-mm lens. This technique highlights not only the structures in the surface waters, such as the many ships wakes entering the Chesapeake (3), but also differentiates the land-water boundaries, especially in the salt marshes and tidal creeks along the northern Virginia Coast (4). The Chesapeake Bay Bridge tunnel is at (5), connecting northern Virginia with the Norfolk area. (STS040-614-047)
