Impact On Question 3: The climatology of free radicals, which control the rate of ozone destruction, is an essential component in any quantification of ozone loss—yet even a first-order estimate in the real atmosphere has eluded us using satellites and balloons. This failure is a result of inaccessibility of the region of interest (detailed, high frequency) meridional coverage to altitudes of at least 30 km, coupled with appropriate instrumentation for the in situ detection of ClO, BrO, NO2, OH, and HO2. An example isolating just the two major halogen radical catalytic cycles is displayed below.
