My dear Ed-
I suppose you think I have forgotten you and you would have some reason but I have some excuse for my long silence- When I left America in the Spring I was a wreck and I did not improve in health for months after I landed.
I had to take such a thorough rest that letter writing was not allowed and in fact I was not equal to it- Now- however I have fully recovered- Am better than I have been for years and am getting to work again- Am so comfortably settled here and have such a perfect studio that I can hardly contain myself.
When I have not written to you I have thought of you often and Mrs. Alexander and I have often spoken of you and your wife- We shall be delighted to hear from you and to know that all is well with you- as it is with us.
Our baby is in fine condition and is beginning to talk French like a native- I had a letter from Col. Allen a few days ago-but he never mentions you- I suppose you do not often meet- Do write and tell us all about yourself- With best regards from us both to you both--
Very sincerely -
John W. Alexander- (signed)
