My dearest Douglas,
As I am writing this- you are still on the Sea and nearing the other side and then all your adventures begin! I can only give you the humdrumy news of the studio here- and assure you of our well being- 
It is perfect weather and Gerome is out riding with Bessie [[Warasch]] & Mrs. Lyons - this afternoon.
Who should call me up but Mrs. Squiers (Ellen's friend) & asks me if I would go out riding with her- & I am waiting for her to come.
Yesterday a letter came for you from the Office of Commissioner of Internal Revenue- and I will copy it - then send it on to you. I will write to Mr. Callan & tell him you are in Europe & give your address. I found the printed income paper all covered with writing and saw that you had deducted $3.098.00 without explanation - but you would
