it was 24 miles farther— we called up Mrs Townsend in Woodford - & she said they had no phone - so we could not talk with them - & decided to come home— Any way the Townsends were going to them today for the 4th & we felt that we might interfere with Mrs von R's plans—

What do you think we did? Wendell went to the Commissary Dept - at Fort Prebble [[Preble]] - & got a pile of groceries for me at army prices! We filled up the tonneau with bacon - coffee - sugar - & canned stuff & soap— The greatest lot - & I thought it would be cheap at 30.00. & it only came to $18.85!

If Jerry can drive in we can get stuff - in Wendell's name - but I may not have to—
The difference in prices is amazing - Coffee at 16 cts a lb - & I pay less 42 cts - and everything with the same difference.

Then we went to the Goodyear rubber tire place - right next to the Dodge headquarters— The boys were in there a long while— Then they came out to me - & told me - that they would take my new extra front tire (on back of car) & one of my front tires off of
[[strikethrough]]front[[/strikethrough]] wheel - & give us extra size cord tires for back wheels - (putting the ones used in front) for $65.00- The large Goodyear rubber tires are 98.60 a piece - & they guarrantee [[guarantee]] them
