My dear Joe
I received your letter several days ago, and am really very much obliged to you for your information, I was rather surprised to find that you had lived in Paris on an average of a dollar per day, most agreeably surprised, I assure you, not that I think that I could live on that amount myself, but still think I could come pretty near it, say a dollar and a half, exclusive of clothes, and as I'm not much of a swell in this respect I don't think I would spend much over them.
