3rd page of Solon's letter (Paris)

so I hear but I do not believe it. Franken was up to see me Friday evening. This is Sunday and he will be with me today. We are going out to the graveyard to see Father's grave. Yesterday we received one more pair of shoes and three more blankets. This finishes our equipment. Now I wish our moving order would come. You see, we cannot move until we get this permit.
I received a letter from Mildred N. I sent the package and gave her some of the sugar. There is none here, but there must be some in the camps. We get plenty to eat but on meat, they are very short. And no sugar to waste. But it is better than it was in England, and we like the cooking anyway.
There has not been a raid on Paris yet since we arrived, except the first two nights. They did not get far. There has been a great many bombs anyway dropped on this beautiful city. They are being fixed up as fast as it is possible. The destruction they made does not stay long.
Sunday evening - Well, I have been with C. Franken all day. This morning he read over all my orders for the Foyers du Soldat, which of course are written in French. As Franken read it, I translated into English and Jimmy took it down in shorthand and then rewrote it in longhand. You will be surprised if you could see me reading now in French. It seems to me that I can understand very well. I have noticed that I have a very large vocabulary which has come from hearing the many words you have used. They have gradually sunk in without me knowing it. There is a little hesitation in forming phrases, but with a little push I get through. But I want to speak well, and I will study for that purpose.
Well, at noon we had lunch. Then we went out to Cemeterio du Montparnasse. We entered by the side. The grave of Father and Mother is fixed up very nice. There is a small low fence on top, over the grave at the foot are low green bushes. There are very pretty flowers on the side, outside the railing there are some shrubs, and trees are a little higher.
