National Portrait Gallery Commission

The members of the National Portrait Gallery Commission have endorsed the appointment of Mr. Robert H. Smith as a member of the Commission. The Executive Committee recommended approval.

The Regents then voted:

That the Board of Regents approves the appointment of Robert H. Smith as a member of the National Portrait Gallery Commission for the term of six years.

Nomination of three additional citizen members of the Board of Regents

Mr. Greenewalt, Chairman of the Nominating Committee for three new Regents, has submitted the conclusions of the Committee's deliberations to the Regents by mail on May 20, 1971, and has requested that responses be sent to the Chancellor.

Dr. Haskins reported that the candidates agreed upon by the Regents are as follows:

First Preference
A. Leon Higginbotham, Jr.
Robert F. Goheen
Edward M. Purcell

Second Preference
J. Paul Austin
Howard W. Johnson
Michael J. Ference

The Executive Committee agreed that the Chancellor should write the first preference candidates a letter of inquiry as to their availability. Should any of the candidates decline, the other recommended candidates would be asked in the order stated above.
