Mr. M. R. Harrington
Nixon, Nevada

Dear Harrington:

You have evidently carried Pueblo culture farther west than we had it, so our information may be an old story to you. However, I send it on for what it is worth. It comes from an old prospector who brought in some black on white sherds, a sandal, and a few other fragments, and we got him to write out what he knew about localities. I have not been altogether certain whether the Pueblo pieces came from the locality he said they came from, but your data seems to confirm it.

I'm glad that Heye is agreeable to your continuing the cave work. The field is most promising, and with a new type of material turning up a Pyramid Lake it is all the more interesting.

While you are knocking about Nevada and coming in contact with all sorts of Indians, why don't you make a point of questioning them enough to work out the general tribal distribution? We have only partial lists, and they are not always in agreement. I am referring of course to the "tribes" or bands whose aggregate constitute Paviotso, Pauite and Shoshone. If we had nothing more than the authentic names and territorial range for the whole of Nevada it would be a great help.

I know this is a job which we should have done long ago, but we have had no one operating in Nevada, and travel to the various parts of the state is too costly with just this objective in view. You will probably cover the area sufficiently to be able to get the data without any cost in money and very little in time. It would make a nice and worthwhile little separate paper.

Loud has not answered my last letter, but I will write again and tell him you would like to get in touch with him.

I am sorry not to have acknowledged receipt of the photograph of the basket and information. It will be added to the paper.

If we can do anything to help you out while you are in the field I am counting on hearing from you.

Sincerely yours,
A.L. Krocker
