My dear Mrs. Harrington:

I am exceedingly sorry that circumstances have been such that we have been unable to avail ourselves of your kind invitation to call and inspect your delightful home. I endeavored to reach you by telephone the day after your letter arrived but not finding a phone listed for you it was impossible. Thereafter I planned to write and then found myself so occupied with the press of an inordinate amount of detail work that I didn't communicate with you. 

I received a letter from Mr. Harrington today which gives me your telephone number and furthermore reminds me of my procrastination. Do forgive me. I shall endeavor to make arrangements to accept your invitation at the very earliest moment.
