Dear Dr. Barnard:-

Your letter of April 29 is just received. This matter has come up at a rather bad time for us, as our expeditions are just starting into the field and our money has been all laid out for the summer's work. For these reasons I shall not be able to come out to see you until late summer or early fall, when our finances will be in better shape again to handle the transaction if it goes through. However, if you wish to send the ethnological material, except the baskets, to us on approval, properly labelled as to tribe, etc., we will pay expressage both ways and the cost of insurance in transit. This might expedite matters a little, but it must be understood that we could not pay for the collection, if accepted, until late summer or early fall. Should you decide to do this, let us know immediately.

Looking forward to the pleasure of meeting you again in the fall, if you have not made other arrangements by that time, and with sincere good wishes, I remain
                       Yours very truly,

Dr. V.C. Barnard,
Seneca,
Missouri.
