Dear Sir:
I wrote you Oct 1st, about a possible expedition to Santo Domingo, and am hoping to get an early reply, although I realize that it is too soon as yet to expect one. In the meantime you will be interested to learn that when I spoke to our director about the possibilities o [[crossed-out]] for work in the Dominican Republic he was much interested, and thinks we can make a beginning this Winter. I told him about [[crossed-out]] about you, and that maybe you could give me some information and show me the ropes so to speak. I suppose I shall have to hire atrustworthy "practico" and buy a good-sized horse (I weigh over 200 lbs) as well as a pack-mule or so to start with, if the "roads" are like those in the eastern tip of Cuba. 
Now a most important question. Is it necessary to get permits from the Dominican authorities or the American military authorities or both to make
