our proposed archeological survey and collection of ancient Indian relics? If permits are necessary, to whom should I apply? The only weapon I ever carried in Cuba was a Colts 38, and that was seldom. Do I need to "pack a gun" in Santo Domingo, and if so do I need a permit to bring it into the country and to carry it? I know a very trustworthy Cuban who was my "teniente" and knows my work well. Would it create bad feeling if I brought him along? Or perhaps it would be better policy to depend entirely on Dominican [[strikethrough]] labo [[/strikethrough]] labor. What do you think?
Now one more and then I am done. Can I get tents cots, saddles and camp outfit in general in Puerto Plata or Santiago, or had I better bring them?
It may interest you to know that one of our explorers, Capt. deBooy, in 1913 and 1914 did some successful archeological work on Saona Id. and at Salado near Cape Macao, but this is the only systematic work of the kind I know of in the Republic.
I hate to impose on you with all these questions, but if you cannot help me, who can?
Thanking you in advance, and hoping to see you before very long, I remain
Yours very truly
