Mr.Harry E. Hurst,
First Sgt. 28th Co., U.S.Marines,
Santiago, Dominican Republic, W.I.
My dear Mr. Hurst:-
Your letter of October 17th has just arrived. It interested me very much, and the drawings that you sent even more so. You have evidently discovered specimens around Santiago and Monte Cristi of types not represented in our collections from Cuba or Eastern Santo Domingo. I have exhibited the drawings to our Director, and he agrees with me that I should come down and do a little buying and collecting in your vicinity. However, at a recent meeting of our Board of Trustees it was decided to postpone the expedition until some time next year, but you may look for me sooner or later, without fail.
Mr. Harris was over here the other evening with his bride, and I took them around the Museum. We had dinner together, and he certainly spoke as if you were just the man who could help me most in our Dominican researches.
You will get another letter or two from me, which I wrote about the middle of the month. Please answer them at your leisure.
When you can get off to Monte Cristi some time we shall be very much pleased to see the pictures you mention.
Hoping to see you next year, I remain
                       Sincerely yours,
  MRH-m
P.S. Do you know what became of the stone hatchet with a piece of wooden handle attached that you speak of?
I will tell Harris about the new boy. Congratulations! Perhaps when I come down I can get you a leave of absence to work with me. I will try anyhow.
