of Wood's Holl, located at the southwestern extremity of Cape Cod, Mass., and lying between Vineyard Sound and Buzzards Bay, was selected for this purpose, as possessing the desired qualifications in a high degree. It had been thoroughly tested during two previous visits, and, in addition to having an excellent harbor, it was known to furnish an abundant supply of pure salt water, of comparatively equable temperature, an essential requisite in the propagation of marine fishes, which it was now proposed to undertake. From that year to the present, the summer headquarters of the Commission have been at Wood's Holl, where the necessary laboratories, wharves and fish  basins have been constructed.
