Other Sources - Large numbers of valuable specimens have been received from other sources than the government surveys above noticed. Individual collectors in the employ of the Smithsonian Institution or working under its direction have made important contributions, and many college professors and members of scientific societies have shared the results of their collecting with the National Museum. Valuable type collections have also been obtained, by a system of exchanges, from foreign naturalists and museums.
