Washington, September 4th, 1865.

Know all men by these present that I, J. B. Pettijohn of Hamilton County State of Indiana held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the sum of Two Hundred for the payment of which I bind myself, my Heirs, Executors and Administrators firmly by these presents in this Contract, that I am to furnish the Person whose name is subjoined (free Labor) with quarters full, healthy, and substantial Rations. Clothes & Schooling and all necessary medical attendance and supplies in case of sickness, and the sum set opposite his name monthly during the continuation of this Contract. This Contract to be broken only by mutual consent.

James Tyler Aged. 14 Ys. $6.00 per month for One Year -

I agree to work for Dr. J. B. Pettijohn of Hamilton County State of Inda. for the period of one year at the rate of 6$. Six dollars per month, Board Clothes quarters & schooling &c. &c. as per above Contract.
