Know all men by these presents that I, James Bryan to the County of Dorchester State of Maryland, held and firmly bound to the United States of America in the sum of (200$.) two hundred dollars. for the payment of which I bind myself, my heirs, executors and administrators firmly by those present in this contract. That I aim to furnish the persons whose names are subjoined (free laborers) quarters. Full substantial and healthy rations and all necessary attendance. And supplies in case of sickness. And the amount per month, monthly, less (25) twenty five percent which amount is to be retained by the employer until the termination of the contract then to be paid in full to the below mentioned employees. This contract to be broken only by mutual consent.
