My Dear Doctor,

Your kind letter of September twenty-eighth was forwarded to me at Henery & Salse and received on my return from our long visit, having been out from the ranch 47 days in all. Nor was it a unsuccessful as it was necessary to return without the coveted trophy - fine sheep head - and be content with a four-year-old xxx.

For camp meat during the trip, I killed an elk or xxx and two deer (one of these last had a very pretty head which was saved) besides packing
