WILLIAM J. HOLLAND
FIFTH & BELLFIELD AVENUES
PITTSBURGH, PA.

July 8, 1904

My dear Mr. Pepper;
I desire to thank you for your kind lines of yesterday in which you express your sympathy with us in the loss which we have sustained in the untimely death of Mr. Hatcher. It is truly deplorable that a man so talented as he, + well equipped for a great life-work should have been cut down just as he seemed to be reaching the fruition of his best + fondest hopes. It will be very hard to replace him, as among paleontolgists in America he held an [[a]] unique position, being among first collectors in his department facile [[?]]

With best regards I am
Yrs Truly
W.J. Holland
