Who always won and remain, as this affiant is informed and believe, loyal Citizens of the United States - amongst whom are the following named firms, To wit: A.T. Stewart & Co., John Davis & Co., Wilson & Hunt &Co., D. Devlin & Co., Longstreet Bradford & Co., C. B. Hatch & Co Clark West & Co., Wm McMurtry & Co, Cochran & Co, G.W. & J Reed & Co, Baldwin Starr, Morrison, Son & Boyt, Weaver Richardson & Co, F M Jones & Co, Hook Skinner & Co, Durie Jaques & Co, Walter & Co. That he was possessed of of assets and outstanding Credits to his customers, mostly planters in Miss" who were these responsible men to an amount exceeding in value his aforesaid outstanding indebtedness, by at least $40,000.00. That by reason of the Act of Secession aforesaid, and the state of war which so immediately followed, he was unable to collect any considerable portion of Such indebtedness, and hence unable to pay his own Creditors in New York. That by the incidents of the war the greater part of the Said assets and [[strikethrough]] indebtedness [[/strikethrough]] indebtment have become comparatively worthless, and this affiant is left not only without the means of paying his own debts, but is wholly without any means whatsoever for the subsistence and maintenance of himself and family. The assets or property which he does or of right ought to Control, are justly the property of his said Creditors, which he is anxious to devote immediately to their use towards the liquidations of their paid claims. That until he is able to accomplish this end, he has no prospect of being able to transact any business whatsoever
