Head Quarters of Natchez Special Commission Feb 24 1865 In the matter of the complaint of Wm H Forbes Geo. J. Tomlinson. agent of Adams Express Company, being just duly sworn, states on oath. That since April last (1864) he has leased the store room corner of main & Wall streets Natchez from Wm H Forbes, and has regularly paid him rent for the same. That during that time no demand has been made upon him by the Treasury department for rent of the property until last Saturday the 18th inst when, Capt Richardson of the Treasury Department, personally and verbally, and in a violent manner, required of him that he should come up and take out a lease of the building, or he Richardson would lease it to others. Further states that since the above mentioned date and longer, as he has reason to know, the said Wm H Forbes has resided with his family in the upper part of the house, and has occupied part of the store with goods and effects, remaining from his late business, and has had actual and
