You have been informed by Lt Col Donaldson Asst Supt &c of this seizure of my property as subject to confiscation - he has submitted to me his estimate of the valuation of the same - the sum total as he makes his figure is $23,000 I ask your careful attention to the prices at which he assesses two pieces of said property the Sharkey house at $10,000 - which is $2,500 more than I have been endeavoring to sell it for and $2000 more than Judge Sharkey estimates it at, it was only assessed when in complete order before the war at $10,000. - Since that time the stables and fences have been almost entirely destroyed - lines of rifle pits made through the whole yard - orchards and many valuable ornamental trees cut down - these are facts, that will if you permit proof be established if from your knowledge you are
