The application of Mrs. Margaret D. Martin of Adams County Miss. respectfully shows that she is the wife of William T. Martin late a Maj Genl in the Service of the Confederate States - with whom she intermarried in January 1854. In June of this same year her mother Jane E B Conner, of the same County conveyed to her by Deed a tract of land, about Eleven acres in Extent, for a place of residence. This land is in the suburbs of Natchez about 1 1/2 miles from the River. After her marriage and about the time of the Gift of land from her Mother, She received in Money a distributive portion of her fathers Estate a great amount of which was invested by her husband in improving the land, & furnishing the house built thereon - which has since been the family residence.

She is advised that her title to this land & the furniture bought with her Money is her separate property no liable for the debts or default of her husband and that the laws of Mississippi give her this title -

In 1861 her husband left home to join the Confederate Army in Virginia & except for a few days in the Fall of 1862 & winter of 1863 remained with the Confederate forces until having been surrendered and
