To Col. Samuel Thomas. Assistant Commissioner of the Freedmans Bureau & for the State of Mississippi 
The Petition of S.G. Moore would respectfully show that he is a loyal citizen of the Government of the United States, having before the date of this Petition, subscribed to the oath of Amnesty of the Presidents Proclamation of May 29th 1865. That he is now, and has been for many years past is a Citizen of The City of Vicksburg, and is now near seventy years of age.

Your Petitioner would further show, that after the breaking out of the late rebellion, he was and is at the date hereof the owner of Lots No 17, 18, and 19 in Square no. 5 [[?]] in first East Street of said City and upon which is situated his Residence; that with his two Daughters and son, he occupied the building upon said his Residence until May of the Year 1862. When after the capture of New Orleans by the U.S. forces. The Fleet of admiral Farragut threatened Vicksburg with Bombardment, and he with his Daughters were by mind by an order of the municipal authorities of the City  as well as that of the military to leave the city and being a man far advanced in life, he sought safety for himself and family, from the Dangers with which Vicksburg was threatened by removing to Jackson Miss
