Dec. 9

Dearest Mom and Uncle,

Thank you for you letter. I am glad to hearthat grandpa is much better. Why don't you ask him to spend more time with you since he enjoys it? I t is a crime the way those great aunts and gramdma treat him. He would be better off living with you.

About this Christmas vacation, I'll be spending it with Mimi and Alice. At first, I had planned on spending some time woth Mary, Auntie Danea and Aunt Peggy. On second thought, it would be too much trouble moving around. So I'll set my home base at Mimi's and if I want to visit Mary for a day or so, I can do that with nobody around to ask me questions and with no promises to fulfill. The vacation starts on Dec. 19, a saturday but I'm planning on leaving on Friday since I have only one class on Saturday morning and there is no sense staying here for one extra night. Besides, I have a lot of shopping to do in N.Y. Didn't get any presents for anyone yet. I think I'll take the train there this there this time if I can get reduced rates on it. Don't worry about me, I'll take care of everything. I don't know if I'll be going skiing with Ray and Mike and group. They haven't said anything about it but It's just as well if I don't go because I want a rest. I might have to study during the vacation because the mid-terms are right after , about 13 days after the vacation and I have to get good grades.

After much serious thought, I have decided on transferring to another college next September. I have really thought about it. I don't like The courses, the dean and the life here. The school itself is all right and the girls are just wonderful.. I have made a lot of friends but I'm willing to give it up if I can transfer to another college. I haven't talked to my adviser yet but I shall as soon as I know what you think about it. I remember you said that it was alright to transfer if I didn't like it here and I hope that still holds. I have written to Columbia University (Barnard College) and to New York U in N.Y. I just got the application forms and numerous other forms from Barnard. Since I don't have to send them in until May, I want some information from you, because I want to do this correctly. First of all, Do I have any relatives that graduated from Barnard or Columbia? Will I be able to leave off-campus? (Ishall go into this later.) Secondly, what do you think of my transferring?

About living at school, the college does not require me to live on campus . I may reside in residences approved by the College. I have talked to Mimi and Alice about this, They said that they will be [[strikethrough]] ga [[/strikethrough]] glad to have me and they have already thought about moving to a larger apartment. They both know how to cook ,so we don't have to worry about the food problem. One more thing, they hardly socialize during school time and both of the girls are serious about their school work. Alice will be 21 in January and Mimi is 19 now. They are both older and I can say wiser than I. So you don't have to worry about me. Please don't get the wrong idea that I want to transfer because I want to live in an apartment. That is not the reason. I need someone close to talk to and to be with. The girls here are O.K. for casual acquaintances but they are not mature enough to understand certains [[strikethrough]] . [[/strikethrough]] problems. If, for some reason, the College does not want me to live off-campus, I would still [[strikethrough]] do it [[/strikethrough]] attend Barnard, as long as I can get away from here. So much for residency.
