Dear Sir:

We have the pleasure to inform you that Miss Lee Ya-ching, noted Chinese aviatrix who has been actively engaged in war relief work since the beginning of hostilities in China, has been officially appointed by various war relief and medical relief organizations in China to tour the United States to appeal for war relief. Miss Lee's special mission will be to appeal for contributions in motor cars, trucks and ambulances for Red Cross work in China. Miss Lee will be under the direction of the American Red Cross and all donated vehicles and other articles will be forwarded to China through this society.

Miss Lee Ya-ching is the well-known young Chinese aviatrix in China whose exploits both in China and in the United States have appeared in newspaper headlines. She was trained at the Boeing School of Aeronautics and graduated in the Transport Class in 1935. She holds the U. S. Government certificate for Private Pilot's license. She is the only Chinese girl to become a member of the "Ninety-niners" and "Caterpiller" clubs. She qualified for membership of the latter when she was thrown from her plane over San Francisco Bay during a practice flight. She used her parachute after being thrown out and though a non-swimmer she managed to remain afloat until rescued by a U. S. Navy cutter.

Miss Lee will leave China by the Pan-American Clipper on September 22 and upon arrival in America will pilot her own plane on the tour. Miss Lee has voluntarily offered her services on this flying tour of the United States for the cause of the suffering Chinese war refugees and we feel confident that you and your worthy organization will render her every assistance to make her humanitarian mission a successful one.

Thanking you in anticipation of your esteemed co-operation, I am,

Yours very sincerely,

Percy Chen, Editor.
