[[stamp]] COPY [[/stamp]] COPY FOR MISS LEE YA CHING April 28, 1939 Mr. Dwane L. Wallace, President Cessna Aircraft Co. Wichita, Kansas Dear Dwane: Lanny Faunce was in the office and told us about the new 165 H.P. engine and I also had the pleasure of seeing it with Pat at the factory. Faunce mentioned the idea of hanging up an altitude record for your weight class with the new 165 H.P. engine. He thought it would be good idea to have a girl make this record and I promptly suggested Miss Lee Ya Ching, the Chinese aviatrix who is flying a Stinson which was loaned to her by Walter Beech. She will be passing through Wichita and you will undoubtedly get the news, and we do hope you can talk it over with her and arrange for something definite. You might be interested to know that Walter Beech loaned her the Stinson gratis, and Beech is definitely a competitor of ours in China. It looks like a good deal all around and Faunce is all for it. This plan would not only give you the feminine publicity but also would tie in the Chinese angle and give it much more color. Let me know if you have any ideas. Cordially yours, CHINA AIRMOTIVE COMPANY Federal, Inc., U. S. A. Samuel Niedelman Manager New York Office SN:JF A Ya Ching--what do you think? Sam
