Dear Miss Lee: I am so glad that you are going to the Annual Advertising Awards dinner Friday night at the Waldorf-Astoria. The other speakers are, British Consul General Godfrey Haggard, who will talk for 10 minutes, and Gardner Cowles a high official of the Office of War Information, who will give the major address. Mr. Frederick C. Kendell has given me this information for you; the speakers will meet at 7:00 o'clock in the Carpenter suite on the 4th floor at the Waldorf. There you will leave your wrap and be escorted to the Starlit Roof for the dinner. Important people like Mrs. Ogden Reid, president of the Herald Tribune will be present. As to your speech Mr. Kendell suggests that you open by saying that he has invited you to address the "presentation dinner of the Annual Advertising Awards" and that you take this opportunity to thank the "members of the Press and representatives of American Business for their sympathetic aid to China during these troubled years." Then you can talk quite informally about present conditions in China, and give some personal experiences. You are requested not to make a direct appeal for funds. You might include something about how much China could do with just 500 Planes. (Did you see the excellent article in this morning's New York Times?) Important people, such as executives from Newspapers, Radio Chains, Industrial Corporations, and advertising Agencies, will attend this dinner at the PARTICIPATING AGENCIES: - American Bureau for Medical Aid to China * American Committee for Chinese War Orphans * American Friends Service Committee * Associated Boards for Christian Colleges in China * China Aid Council * China Emergency Relief Committee Church Committee for China Relief * Indusco (American Committee in Aid of Chinese Industrial Corporation) The President's War Relief Board Registration No. 546
