P.O.Box 66 93023 August 6, 1972 Dear Georges, During my vacation, Ethlyne, my wife, is good enough to be a secretary, hence this letter in English. It is only a few days ago that your letter, as always inter- esting and amusing, of July 7th roached me - for, you will hardly believe it, but your letter was addressed to 5 East 11th Street - I am wondering what your subconscious was haunted by...… and were it necessary, I am enclosing this valuable documentary evidence. As I believe I wrote earlier, were we to estivate in Cali- fornia this summer, I intended to pay you a short visit be- tween two planes. My intentions have not flagged, but strange- ly enough, in spite of all the facilities we are granted, from here in Ojai, I could not go to San Francisco without getting up at five o'clock and returning well after sunset, which I am sorry to say this present writing I am not inclined to do, particularly with the depressing heat of these days. Thus my last hope is that we may be offered enough time in Los Angeles to make the trip north - this would not be before the end of the month. I would, of course, call you up in order to make the necessary plans. One disturbing element is that I was just told your airport is about an hour from the city. I am repeating here your telephone number as I have put it down, just in order to make sure -415-474-2538. I will not write much more, as I hope to see you shortly, but just let me say that I found my trip to Europe particu- larly disappointing and very tiring indeed. Hope you are well. P.S. Also hope you are working on Fragonard.
