[[RIGHT TOP MARGINALIA]]caa[[RIGHT TOP MARGINALIA]] [[GOV'T SEAL]] DEPARTMENT OF STATE WASHINGTON In reply refer to AD November 13, 1944 CONFIDENTIAL The Secretary of State presents his compliments to the Honorable the Secretary of Commerce and refers to the matter of clearance by the Joint Chiefs of Staff of Messrs. Charles I.Stanton, Deputy Administrator of the Civil Aeronautics Administration and Edgar H. Smith, also of the Civil Aeronautics Administration, for the purpose of attending the Toronto meeting. It will be recalled that this meeting was arranged for the purpose of demonstrating radar range and associated equipment, and that all persons attending had to be cleared, for that purpose, by the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The clearance of Messrs. Stanton and Smith was concurred in by the Joint Chiefs of Staff on condition that they agree that all classified information to be obtained at the Toronto meeting would be safeguarded by them in accordance with applicable Army and Navy regulations, copies of which are enclosed herewith for transmission to Messrs. Stanton and Smith. Enclosures: Army and Navy regulations safeguarding military information.
