in preparing the material obtained in the yacatas, and also the material in the collection. My only regret is that I cannot be with you to help you pack it. Dr. Bauer expects to make a shipment to New York about the first of February, so you will no doubt be able to get the material to him just in time. You of course realize that the fact of his handling this material must be sub rosa. It is really understood by the authorities, but if brought to their notice by an outsider they might feel that they would have to make an investigation.
Now for the homeward trip. After leaving Patzcuaro we went to Mexico City, and there had the pleasure of spending some little time with Dr. Bauer and meeting the large Heredia Collection. We spent a day and a half in the City and then started northward. The food, or something, disagreed with Mrs. Pepper in Mexico City, and the fever came back to some extent, which caused her to be anything but well on the trip northward. She was not in bed at all but had to rest the greater part of the time. The trip East was rather hard as it kept us on the road nearly two weeks, both day and night. When she reached her home near Rochester, she had a relapse and the Doctor had to give her some pretty strong medicine to bring her around to even a semblance of a normal condition. She reached Newark the latter part of December and is now feeling much better, having had a great amount of sleep, and regular meals. The fever
