January 16th, 1905.

Mr. Sumner W. Matteson,
Decorah, Iowa.

My dear Matteson:-

I have been having a great time in the wilds of the Southwest, and the Tierra Caliente of Mexico. I reached New York during the Holidays and had to go at once to Philadelphia to take charge of Section H of the American Association for the Advancement of Science. Since returning from Philadelphia I have been up to my neck in work at the Museum, there were certain things that had to be done immediately, and in the rush I neglected my mail matter.

Among the packages that were received, I have found your negatives. These will go at once, with some of mine, to our Museum slide maker. He does not take outside work as a rule, except during lulls in his regular educational work, but I have arranged with him to do this work for you, and hope to be able to send you same, with bill, less the amount that is stilldue you from our outfit for negative preserves, etc., in the very near future. I greatly regret that this oversight should have occurred, but under the circumstances, it was unavoidable.

I am always greatly pleased to be of assistance to my friends, and trust that you will let me know, should anything else come up, that I can attend to for you.
