We spent about a month in the country and then went back to Apatzingan and Uruapan. On the way to Mexico City we stopped at Lake Patzcuaro and had the pleasure of being on the lake at night with three drunken Indians. We were returning from Tzintzuntzan and a storm came up which made it necessary to stop for a time. The Indians bought some tequila and by the time we were able to start they were in a pretty shaky condition. That experience will stick in one of the many grooves of Mexican memories for years to come. Our dug out was on the point of turning turtle many times and I finally had to draw my gun to keep the men from destroying more of the liquor. The trip in its entirety was delightful; we were handicapped by the rains which continued until the middle of December but, aside from that it was a tale of a luxury that will cause us to yearn for more.
This is Monday morning and I must finish with you if at all. There were no wary demands on my time Saturday that did work had to be dropped completely.
Am holding copy of Matthew Cook for you.
With fondly regard from Mrs. Pepper and self, I am, Sincerely yours, Geo H Pepper.
