Do you think it would be possible to buy some, or possibly all, of them? If you could do this you might bring them out with you when you come to the the States this winter. I am assuming that you will make your usual trip. If you could only get photos of these specimens and send them on to me I could let you know about their desirability. Pipes are not over common and the chances are that they would be a good addition to our collections. Should you be able to make a deal of this kind you could use some of the money that you have and send the balance at your convenience. Have a good look into the matter if you can and let me have photos or drawings of the pipes if possible.
Your statement in the last part of your letter concerning a rifle, is absolutely false as you are NOT to send me a rifle. That old twenty two did its duty and is now a thing of the past. I do not expect to go to the field for some time to come and therefore have no use for a " shooting-iron". If you would feel better by "making good" in some way you can pick up two or three throwing-sticks and shafts some time when you are in Batzcuaro and a couple of the sashes used by the natives. The spears used with the throwing-sticks can be cut in three places which will make the bundle about three feet in length and therefore readily sent to the States. These specimens would please me far greater than any rifle that you could send. Do not put yourself out to get these objects but wait until you have business in these parts.
You mention an article concerning the "Fiesta at San Juan
