them are opposed to the bill in any form whatever! During my tour of inspection the murder of two freedmen was reported to me both of which took place in Amite county. I made inquiries in regard to what had been done in the matter and was informed that the Coroners Jury had failed to discover any clue to the Murderers. I think that the white men, however friendly to the Freedmen dislike to testify against the white men for fear of personal violence. The same reason influences the freedmen, and for this reason it will be almost impossible to discover who commits these outrages on the Freedmen. There has been several complaints during the month but the most of them are of minor importance. I respectfully call your attention to the fact that some of the citizens of this district are anything but loyal and do not hesitate to say that they expect another War or in case of War with a foreign government would help the enemies of the U.S. all of which is respectfully submitted.
